How to Access GEMS Data

Data Service

If you submit research results that utilize the GEMS data to journals or other publications, we recommend including the following statement:

"This study was conducted using the GEMS(Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer) data provided by the Environmental Satellite Center of the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER)."

NIER-2025-01-03-003 (Operation of the Geostationary Environmental Satellite Ground Station and Satellite Data Service)

We inform you of how to access GEMS data as follows.

Download from the ESC website (nesc.nier.go.kr)

Anyone can download GEMS data without logging in.
Up to 20 GB and 40 files

SFTP service (A written application form required)

An account is issued for the user’s public IP address, which is allowed to pass through the ESC’s Web Application Firewall (WAF).
Log in to the SFTP server using the account and download data.

External hard drive (A written application form required)

GEMS data can be downloaded to an external hard drive (sent to the ESC by the user via mail), which is then mailed back to the user.

For SFTP or external hard drive service, please make sure to submit the application form to the ESC (Korean users: via an official document, Foreign users: via email).

※ Previously approved SFTP users also should submit the application form again if they request another product(s).

※ GEMS Open-API service will start in 2023.
