AEH

AEH

Description

Aerosol effective height is the central altitude where aerosols are mainly distributed in the atmosphere with large spatial-temporal variations.

Applications

AEH is used for estimating surface PM concentrations with other aerosol information such as AOD. It can also be used in retrieving concentrations of atmospheric gases from satellite observations or monitoring long-range transported air pollutants.

Note: data interpretation

AEH is calculated indirectly by using information of light absorption with an assumption of vertical profiles of aerosols. Therefore, it may be sensitive to aerosol properties and surface reflectance errors. Also, it may vary depending on the vertical profiles of aerosols.
